Introduction to Oil Painting
Prerequisite: “Introduction to Painting for Beginners”, for Palette Art Studio students who have worked with gouache and would like to begin learning oil painting, or for adults who would like to start with oil.
In this course of four classes, we will learn how to apply traditional skills, techniques, and theories with an experimental approach.
Class 1: Learn basic concepts of color theory. Learn how to set up your palette, how to mix colors, and how to use different brush strokes which are suitable for oil.
Class 2: Learn how to apply fundamental painting principles such as value, hue, saturation , primitive and earth colors in oil. During the first two classes we will work on a few exercises on small canvases.
Class 3: Painting a 3D object as a small still life. Learn how to plan out your painting and how to apply important composition rules, and color principles.
Class 4 and 5: We will complete the work with the second layer and finishing details.
Students will have the option to complete their artwork after each class is completed, and to send it to the instructor for feedback and critique at any point.
Age groups: 8-12, 13-18, adults
Supplies: 2-3 small canvases, brushes, water-based oil paint. A more detailed supply list will be provided for students upon registration.

Painting a Forest with Oil
This course is a great intro to the impressionism technique. For experienced students. Prerequisite: “Introduction to Painting for Beginners”.
Class 1: Basic history and meaning of Impressionism. Learn the techniques you need to use for impressionistic painting. Learn how to execute the appearance of shifting light, changing atmospheric condition. Planning your project in terms of mood, using a reference, and choosing a color combination. Students will begin painting the background.
Class 2: Learning different brush strokes for different purposes. Intro to palette knife techniques. Work on the second layer of background.
Class 3: Learning how to paint trees . Planning and balancing a composition.
Class 4 and 5: Complete the painting. Execute the texture on the bark and leaves. Learn how to balance the finishing touches and how to decide when a painting is complete.
Students will have the option to complete their artwork after each class is completed, and to send it to the instructor for feedback and critique at any point.

Painting a Sunset with a Water Reflection
Class 1: History of Impressionistic landscapes. Analyze Monet’s artwork and innovative style. Learn how to connect colors and emotions. Learn about the color spectrum and why it is important for gradations. Practice painting gradations. Learn how to plan your future painting. Learn to choose a harmonious color scheme.

Botanical Painting
In this course we will learn how to paint floral images such as leaves and flowers, in a contemporary and decorative way. We will learn how to use references to create a beautiful floral arrangement.
Class 1: Brief introduction to the history of floral painting. Learn about great artists like Giovanna Baroque and Georgia O’Keefe.
Learn how to create a pleasing arrangement of floral elements, go over basic rules of composition and tonal value.
Work on thumbnails and sketch your idea on canvas.
Class 2: Go deeper into color theory: Work on developing a wide spectrum of green colors from simple to complicated varieties.
Learning how to use classical painting techniques and apply them to a more modern style.
Class 3,4,5: Work on a project with step-by-step guidance.
